As the leader singer of alternative rock bands, Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel, as well as being a solo artist, Francois van Coke has become an icon of South African rock music. His huge stage presence and vocals make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, and he has become known for his powerful live performances. His first solo single and album both immediately jumped to the number 1 spot in the SA iTunes store, the first Afrikaans music to do so.
During episode four of Come Drive With Me he discussed how he started performing 14 years ago, and why he chose his stage name, instead of using his real name, which is Francois Badenhorst. It appears this was done at the request of his father, who was a pastor, as people from the local church community were complaining to him about the name of the band.
He has no plans to slow down anytime in the near future. He loves the rock music business and expects to be on stage for many years to come.
The car chosen for this episode was the winner of the World Car Design of The Year 2018, the Range Rover Velar. During the program, he talked about how to survive the largest multiple day music festival in South Africa, OppiKoppi, and why he loves his bakkies. He also spent time advising Ciro on how to start a beer company.
